YOUR IMPACT Why this role exists: to keep Posit’s books accurate, timely, and audit-ready - and to raise the standard for how the Accounting team works.

Serve as the subject matter expert for those areas, including researching and documenting the technical accounting positions behind complex or non-routine transactions. Lead accounting projects and system changes from plan through delivery.

Own internal controls for your areas; identify process or control deficiencies, design and implement solutions, and raise the standard for how the team works.

Collaborate well with others, stay positive under pressure, welcome feedback, and contribute to the department’s shared goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Posit is a Public Benefit Corporation and Certified B Corp on a mission to create open-source software for data science, scientific research, and technical communication - and we’re building a company designed to thrive for 100 years.
• We’re looking for a Senior Accountant to join the team, reporting to an Accounting Manager and working closely with FP&A, Tax, Payroll, AP/AR, Engineering/IT, and our external auditors.
• You are singularly responsible for: Prepare accurate, timely financial statements, reconciliation schedules, and supporting analysis (flux, variance, and trend) for your assigned areas.
• Lead accounting projects and system changes from plan through delivery.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting practices, including automation that delivers data faster and reduces risk across teams.
• Support internal and external audits and the testing of people, process, and system controls.
• Understanding of people, process, and system controls, and a track record of leading a project or process improvement.
• Large-project planning: creating major project plans, estimating well, and explaining your confidence in delivery.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Mentor less experienced teammates with their questions by reviewing their work and explaining your thinking, and present regularly to the team and stakeholders.
• Hands-on NetSuite experience (or a related ERP): journal entries, reconciliations, saved searches, and running the close in the system.
• Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas (lookups, nested logic, pivots, and array formulas) for reconciliations and analysis.
• Day-to-day experience using an AI tool for analysis, automation, or documentation, with sound judgment in validating its output.
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and the ability to explain accounting decisions clearly, with the reasoning behind them.
• Experience with new functional areas and technologies adjacent to accounting (e.g., revenue, billing, or subledger systems).
