Advanced Practice Provider (O-5 Billet) Supervisory

Job Overview

The Supervisory Advanced Practice Provider oversees Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners at the DHS IHSC facility, training, and schedules. Provides direct detainee care, performs evaluations, and prescribes medications.

Requires licensure, certification, and 6+ years clinical experience. The Supervisory APP reports directly to the facility Clinical Director. This position is only open to USPHS officers and Call to Active Duty (CAD) candidates.

Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling. Must have the ability to assist sick, injured or aging detainees or staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).

The work may necessitate some physical characteristics that will be required when responding to an emergency situation, such as running a short distance, prolonged standing and working in an austere environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as the direct supervisor and rater to federal Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to include both Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioner at IHSC sites. Provides leadership and oversight of APP onboarding and training.

Participates in national APP training initiatives as required. Assist as required in the credentialing and privileging processes. Oversees the APP peer review processes. Augments clinical leadership in collaboration with the clinical director.

• DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as the direct supervisor and rater to federal Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to include both Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioner at IHSC sites.
• Provides leadership and oversight of APP onboarding and training.
• Augments clinical leadership in collaboration with the clinical director.
• Interprets Tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) and diagnostic studies, manages Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) for treatment of active or latent tuberculosis.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
