Job Overview

The Supervisory Advanced Practice Provider oversees Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners at the IHSC facility, training, and schedules. Provides direct detainee care, performs evaluations, and prescribes medications.

Requires licensure, certification, and 6+ years clinical experience. The Supervisory APP reports directly to the facility Clinical Director. This position is only open to current USPHS officers.

Job Description

USPHS Call to Active Duty (CAD) candidates are not eligible for this position. COMPETENCIES: Superior oral/written communication skills. Analytical Skills and ability to navigate complex system. Strong interpersonal and active listening skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds. Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.

The work may necessitate some physical characteristics that will be required when responding to an emergency situation, such as running a short distance, prolonged standing and working in an austere environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as the direct supervisor and rater to federal Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to include both Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioner at IHSC sites. Provides leadership and oversight of APP onboarding and training.

Participates in national APP training initiatives as required. Assist as required in the credentialing and privileging processes. Oversees the APP peer review processes. Augments clinical leadership in collaboration with the clinical director.

  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured or aging detainees or staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as the direct supervisor and rater to federal Advanced Practice Providers (APP) to include both Physician Assistants and/or Nurse Practitioner at IHSC sites.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of APP onboarding and training.
  • Augments clinical leadership in collaboration with the clinical director.
  • Interprets Tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) and diagnostic studies, manages Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) for treatment of active or latent tuberculosis.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
